Black Is The New Black
Pairing: Matt Davies-Kreye, Lucas Woodland
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Rubber, mindbreak
Notes: So I had hoped, as always, to get one of the main WIPs out. Indeed it was an intent to get a prompt fic out. However between a certain someone reading through the rubber fics and giving me a suggestion I’m back with a whole new fic (as if I needed more!) but I’d always intended to do more of the ‘rubber verse’ although this wasn’t what I thought I would do.
This is set late 2023 (and I really need to find a pic of Matt but can’t find one quickly). A companion fic is coming too and will probably be the next thing before I go back to the prompts

The rest of Sunday ended up being kinda fuzzy, mostly due to the warm and having cider during Rogue One so my focus was a lil off. (And then my laptop was all ‘update! There’s an update!’ During dungeons and dodongos which was an annoyance)

In the night I started Code Of Silence which was pretty good. Then I watched the Quatermass Experiment cause I saw it on Amazon prime and I’d seen it mentioned a lot of the last Who boxset. It did start pretty promising (and had someone I recognised from the Marple films) though damn it did lose something as it went on.

I found it funny that the wife of the surviving astronaut complained he was being tested on in the lab, wanted him in the hospital to get treated instead and the almost immediately plotted to get him out of there to take him home. Like girl what are you even doing??

Monday was uneventful for the most part (other than fic reading woo!)ut I did unlock General Grievous on Fortnite, yay! He looks so cool! I also won a code for Shovel Knight dig, which I had a go on last night and I can tell it’s one of those games that’s gonna be tricky as hell to get through but it should be fun to do some runs.

Tuesday I was at the library to cover Joy, but I mostly just read the Seven Dials Mystery some more (and there’s already been another body!). I love that Lord Catterham is back from Chimneys, there’s something so funny about him and how he’s despairing about everything. I might read more after this post

There was an announcement that James Marriott was gonna be doing a signing tour for his album, which made me glad I’d held off getting it. After a scare (the site said tickets were unavailable😭) I did manage to get it so I’ll be off to the Birmingham date, yay! I got the cd, though I might get the vinyl on the day too.

Last night after A LOT of delays, I was finally able to get back to Stranger Things, yippe! Annoyingly I misclicked and so skipped the previously (which would’ve been a helpful reminder but I couldn’t seem to get it back) again it was essentially four plot lines (until two of them came together right at the end).

First the simplest, the boys in the van trying to find Eleven, which felt like it would be more comic relief until Will and Mike’s talk which was so obviously Will saying how he really felt to Mike only substituting Eleven’s name. I just wanted to give him a hug.

Then there was Hopper, Murray and Joyce escaping the Russian prison which had a creepy moment of them in a lab with Demogorgon’s in tubes which gave me vibes of Alien Resurrection (which also had Winona in so surely it was intentional). I did half expect the glasses to smash though.

Then there was Eleven dealing with her past memories and the doctors messing her up and trying to stop her from going. Like her ‘Papa’ (I’ve forgot his name) is such an ass trying to control her, threatening Owen’s, drugging her and then trying to get her to forgive him as he’s dying. I’m glad she didn’t.

Then there’s everyone else back in Hawkins. Damn that sportsball captain is such a dick intimidating Nancy like that. I think she should have hit him with hammers (or shot him since she had a gun).I feel their whole plane is gonna go so wrong though, like they just think they can walk up to Vecna in a trance and kill him. Nah that ain’t happening at all is it?

But also! EDDIE WHY DID YOU CALL STEVE BIG BOY? Like he is so absolutely blatant about wanting him damn. I love that for him though.

I do wanna see what happens (though how everyone is gonna get back to Hawkins to be of any use feels doubtful!) so I hope I’ll get to see it the next few days. The only issue is the length of the finale is over 2 hours so my focus has to be good for it. (So it might be Thursday or a Friday)

Today we went down the road to pick mum’s meds up. I had just hoped to go slow to make it quick but no, mum wanted to go to cause Sainsburys clothes had a sale on which… ugh ended up being so annoying. At least I got some cheap things and the Lego Star Wars magazine I was hoping to get and mum’s friend was there and offered us a ride home.

When we got back the new Doctor Who magazine was here, which came with a free book of Ghe Wheel In Soace which I might have to read cause the ep hasn’t been released cause it’s missing. I just read the preview of the finale eps which didn’t reveal much (there’s not even a cast list!) but the synopsis is what I’ve seen people theorising).

After lunch a storm rolled in with hapeavy rain and thunder, but sadly it didn’t last too long which is a shame.

Tonight’s plan is the new series of The Chelsea Detective, an Agatha Christie thing (with David Suchet!) and then it depends how tired I am.

Post time! Mostly Who related cause oh boy that was a lot.

Friday night I finished the second Classic Doctors New Monsters 2 with Day Of The Vashta Nerada which may be my fav of the four stories. It’s an Eighth Doctor story and the audios of him always make me sad he never got a full televised series. But this was such a great story obviously it’s inspired by Jurassic park (one of the guys even has a name similar to Nedry).

Also yesterday I finished the year of Night Vale I was listening too and damn, I’m so glad that the university of what it is arc is over cause I hated Doctor Lubelle (even more so in those last ep) but damn her fate felt so fitting and so satisfying.

The rest of the day was spent distracting myself by watching Murder She Wrote and playing fortnite and generally avoiding the internet causa spoilers cause we get major warnings that something was going down.

Thoughts on the Doctor Who ep, The Interstellar Song contest which despite the name is not the fun camp ep you might expect. (And there’s gonna be major spoilers cause it’s an ep that, again surprisingly, has some)

After that I watched the actual song contest and, like before it was good but felt… I dunno. And then there was the end were Isreal somehow came second and it’s obvious that it’s down to Zionists just voting en masse and rigging the system. Thankfully they didn’t win and Austria did but it’s still disappointing both they were there and people were giving then 12’s.

Bleh.

Today I watched Rogue One which I wanted to do after Andor, as many others have cause it’s the number 1 film on Disney+ right now. And damn the whole thing is so good but I’m surprised how many things just.l. Gave me extra feels this time. It wasn’t just the scenes with Cassian (especially the last one), it was Galen’s message, it was the sense that so much was sacrificed to get to this point. And also that Krennic had a very bad not good few days with leaks and how he ended up screwed over just like Dedra did. (And damn him saying ‘Who are you?’ too)

Now it’s time to poke the laptop before dnd and then… who knows?

So after the last post the trip to get superglue was successful (despite almost losing my glasses lens in nettles on the way). The glue worked and has held since them, yipee! So I shouldn’t have it break (at least like that) again for awhile. And if I do, hey I’ve got superglue.

I went in the Game in the Sports Direct while I was down there and it was so odd. There weren’t prices on 90% of the things which was an odd choice. They didn’t have what I saw in the site anyway but it did feel so off putting.

That night I watched the first Eurovision semi final and it was pretty good, though it was a shame Croatia didn’t get through (it was one of the better songs) and my focus did get a bit off. The second semi final is tonight and we vote in it, so I’m gonna vote on… something and hope Isreal don’t get through.

Yesterday ended up being a town trip, but ugh beforehand was so stressful. Mum started an argument and we missed two of the earlier buses which was annoying and I almost didn’t go.

The trip was mostly to use a voucher at Lindt at the outlet store and we did that, getting some of the raspberry (which I’ve not tried) and pistachio boxes (plus two discounted things). But can someone explain what the deal is with ‘Dubai chocolate’ like what is that and why’s a bar of it twice the price (£10 compared to £4.50) of other bars?

The outlet other than that was a bit eh, I was unfocussed from the argument (and there’s not much there anyway) but at least we got churros. (And on the bus I started last months read Christie, the seven dials mystery.)

In town I got SFX from Morrisons (it’s a halfway to Halloween special) and the Lego Plum Blossom from B and M (which looks so pretty) and some cans of Stranegr Things drink which I’ll have when I (finally) finish season 4. (I promise I’ll get there!)

I came back, built some of the blossom, then went back to town for the cinema to see Sinners. (Thoughts under the cut)

On the way back I spotted that there’s gonna be a horror market thing in town and I’m so intriguing but at the same time the timing is so bad. Like why’s it on a Sunday and in a few weeks? Apparently there is another one later in the year but not till just before my birthday. Maybe I’ll go visit it.

When I got back I just flopped and listened to a Who audio (The Carrionite Curse which was pretty good and all about using the power of a paradox to cause trouble) and then just flopped.

Today we went to see the ducks and while there were only three ducklings about (and one coot) there were new baby geese! There were five of them and they got really close and they were so smol and fluffy. Pics of the cuties are here

Then there was the last Andor eps and… damn. While it felt a tad subdued (theres no massacre or great space battle or anything) it did feel like a fitting culmination of the season and the series as a whole. So many people meet their fates and so much is set in motion for the events of Rogue One (which I’ll be watching again this weekend!)

And damn those last scenes…

I’m just glad some of my favs made it to the end and there weee so many amazing performances. I really hope it wins all the awards. (It has to win costume and actress awards surely)

(And I’m glad the black series Vel I got arrived in time for it. But now I do kinda want the new u-wing at some point.)

Now though I’m gonna flop a bit cause I’m tired for being out all day yesterday.

Will you halt this eclipse in me

It’s that time again for a post and the last few days have been pretty busy.

(And once again I will refrain on commenting on politics but just know I’m absolutely fuming about how this Labour government keeps managing to get worse. Like it feels there’s no bottom for them and feels their promised change is a change for the worse. Ugh)

Friday was the release of new Sleep Token with Even In Arcadia. It’s really good and my favs are, other than Emergence, Look To Windward and Dangerous. (I now also picture Mon Mothma during a section of Caramel for some reason.)

Also band stuff it is funny Matt Tuck of Bullet has apparently pushed his ego too far and fucked up the joint Trivium they were doing. It’s funny seeing the scathing stuff about him but damn I do feel bad for my boy Jay.

Saturday I woke up and… my glasses were broken. The frame around one of the lenses is broken which means the lens is loose and liable to pop out. I must’ve rolled onto them in the night or something. I’ve used tape to hold it together which does work but ugh, I’m gonna see if I can get superglue today. I could get them fixed but I fear the expense and also feel I’m due an eye test this year so it’d be pointless.

Mum’s friend didn’t need anything when she came which was good and, after some consideration I ended up going to town anyway under my own steam. I didn’t do too much, just getting a few things mum wanted (and a cute lil Lego set with Guinea pigs that was reduced).

However the main reason I went was to see Thunderbolts* so thoughts under the cut.

That night was also new Who and my focus was a little off so I don’t think I enjoyed it was much as I could have (I blame going out and the annoying heat!) though it was good to see the fugitive doctor briefly (thoughI wish it hadn’t been spoiled for me😒 I hate it going to iplayer in the morning instead of on the showing). And I did love how it was showing the doctor relating to his new blackness (and his lil moment with Belinda understanding was so sweet).

It did feel though that it relied too much on things that we didn’t see before. Like there were multiple references to things the doctor did in offscreen adventures which did feel a lil much. But other than that it was good. I have liked that this season has been a wild variety of things though it does make me sad it’s almost over (though yay this week is the Interstellar Song Contest!)

Speaking of it does feel odd that Eurovision feels a bit… I dunno subdued kinda? Like if it wasn’t for Doctor Who having that ep the same day I feel I wouldn’t have known it was so close. (It’s only in the past few days I’ve even seen ads for it.)

But circling back to who I also listened to a Who audio with the Empire Of Racnoss andit was… it was ok, but I just don’t like the Racnoss in general so it is what it is. But it was funny the empress was voiced by the actress who plays Martha’s mum.

(Also I have been listening to Night Vale and damn I’m hoping the university of what it is people fuck off soon cause ugh.)

Sunday I watched the second half of Tales Of The Underworld and the tone is so different to the first half. It feels the Cad Bane half tells a more complete story but at the same time it’s kinda… eh? I definitely preferred the Ventress half.

Yesterday I finished the Secret Of Chimneys. I’ve been chipping away at it doing a chapter or two at a time but I ended up locking in yesterday and read half. I definitely didn’t see the ending coming and there were a lot of twists and red herrings so it was really good.

But damn there were still so many issues and typos with this printing. (And it makes me wonder if, at the time, they sent out redone ones). Like it didn’t really stop me enjoying it, though did take me out when punctuation was wrong, but in one of the last chapters a page was printed twice. I’m really hoping it’s a one off issue with this book and not something that plagued the collection cause I’ve got a load of the books now (this was just the first one I read)

And now the gaming portion of the post.
*I finished Planet of Lana before it left Game Pass, yay! It is a very pretty though it is pretty open to interpretation. Still it was good and mui is so adorable
*I went on Lego Star Wars and finished the events on the planets (Coruscant was the last planet I needed to do) so that was two more achievements ticked off. I still need to play through the levels on free play (despite it being years old only Episode I is 100%) so maybe I’ll do that? But I do wanna do other SW games too
*I did a free days on Blue Prince, I still feel I’ve not got anywhere really but I unlocked the foundation, gemstone cave, grotto and got the boiler working
*I finally went back on Alan Wake 2 and finished the Casey chapter so maybe I’ll do some more
*I also used my Xbox credit to get the Dredge expansions, cause a pass for them was on sale (and I had xbox credit) and I’ve still not been on it.

I had been hoping to watch Sinners last night, but the cinema inexplicably had no showings of anything (I’m sure it had listening Saturday but when I checked yesterday afternoon there were none). The listings has been updated to how Thursday is the last showing so I’m hoping to see it tomorrow so fingers crossed!

Next few days the plan is this
*Sinners
*Work on (and hopefully finish) fic
*Do some gaming, maybe Alan Wake 2, maybe Star Wars
*Stranger Things (I still need to watch those last two eps)
*watch something spooky
*Finish the Who ray special features
*Grievous quests on Fortnite (when they’re live later in the week)
*icon organise

I’m sure I’m missing something super obvious too.

But for now I’m gonna zoom down to home bargains in search of super glue (I didn’t see any in town) and then wait on the food shop,
